The Institute for Neuro- and Bioinformatics (www.inb.uni-luebeck.de)
and the Department for Neurology at University of Lübeck, are seeking
for a qualified candidate for a PhD student position in Computational
Neuroscience, specifically analysis of fMRI (functional magnetic
resonance imaging) data.

The focus of the project “Integrated global information processing in
the human brain” is to look at changes in the organization of global
activity in the human brain during conscious experience. The candidate
will, in collaboration with the other scientists in the project,
develop and test multivariate tools to analyze global brain activity
measured with fMRI. In addition, the candidate will participate in the
development of new experimental fMRI paradigms and conduct his/her own
fMRI experiments.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who is interested to
conduct a cutting-edge project in an interdisciplinary environment.
The candidate should have good communication skills and should be able
to work in an interdisciplinary team with computer scientists, life
scientists and medical staff. There will be room to develop own ideas
in the course of the project, so the candidate should be able to
integrate his/her ideas into the work of the research group. The ideal
candidate would have a master’s degree in computer science,
computational neuroscience, mathematics, engineering or a related
discipline. Psychologists and life scientists with a strong background
in computational science are also invited to apply. Experience with
fMRI data would be a plus.

The position is part of the PhD program at the Graduate School for
Computing in Medicine and Life Sciences
(www.gradschool.uni-luebeck.de) and is located within a collaborative
work between the Institute for Neuro- and Bioinformatics (Prof. Dr.
Amir Madany Mamlouk) and the Department of Neurology (Dr. rer. nat.
Silke Anders). The PhD position is funded for 3 years with a
scholarship of 1250 EUR per month, with possible increase.

To apply, please send a detailed CV, a short statement of motivation,
and two reference letters to madany@inb.uni-luebeck.de.

For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Amir Madany Mamlouk
(madany@inb.uni-luebeck.de) or Dr. Silke Anders
(silke.anders@neuro.uni-luebeck.de)

Application deadline is April 15, 2010. Starting date is May 1, 2010
(or as soon as possible thereafter).
